Like Amy Winehouse Alessia’s lyrics are personal, an autobiographical account of issues that are related both to the music industry and her own individual perception of herself as a person. Citing Amy Winehouse as the inspiration behind her music career, ‘Here’ juxtaposes the bluesy intonation of ‘Rehab’ with modern sass and soul. The future-soul esque vibe, uses repetition to solidify Alessia’s role as Queen of the Introverts; with repetitive coos of ‘oh-oh-oh here’, Alessia shows that she is a powerhouse not worth messing with.

Behind every iconic song is an inspirational message and ‘Here’ is no exception. Alessia urges ‘[her] people’ –the painfully shy- to step forward and make a change. No longer are the meek weak instead they will unite to challenge the social norm and break free from societal constraints, in an industry that is defined by superficiality. The united army is a rebellion against ideals and behaviours that are typically associated with the party girl lifestyle and Alessia is ‘not interested’ in adhering to the expected ‘celebrity’ norm.  Like many modern pop jams Alessia borrows hooks and samples beats that are layered over sing-song nursery narration to give a niche soul-esque flavour.
