Not knowing you're a creative person, in the beginning can drive you crazy. You almost feel as if you don't belong and you always seem to want to challenge everything. Your mind plays a table tennis match in your mind, constantly going back and forth searching for your hearts desires. You are probably labeled as something by others who feel you do not fit into society, yet for some reason you laugh at them behind their backs and say; "You'll see". If you have experienced some of these, then i say to you right now to be proud and absolutely happy because you are a creative.
You stand out from the rest and they don't seem to understand. Sometimes you don't seem to understand you. You may be labeled as something negative for your attitude and outlook on life but as of now you should start to be happy and proud of what is said about you. It means you are not understood which is exactly why you are a creative.
I can get into the psychology of things now but i will save that for a later article. For now, i will give you 5 signs you should look out for that determines you are a creative person.
1. YOU WORK AT YOUR OWN PACE
Creative people are sometimes called lazy or naive because we choose not to follow. We choose to order pizza and watch a movie then an Apple keynote before we get to do our own work. In that time, you are picking up knowledge and using your creative imagination to bring to life an idea that isn't reality yet. You find yourself doing extensive research before you get into one of your projects and you do not use 90% of what you have learned. You instead do things in your own time and whenever you want. You like to nurture your work before it comes out and no matter how long it takes or what goes wrong in that process, you somehow always seem to work things out and in your own time. You are a creative person and if you are told otherwise, send them to me. An example of your own pace is Steve jobs taking recreational substances before the big idea of Apple fell into his lap. 2. YOU SEE 'FAILURE' AS LIFE LESSONS
Where some get discouraged, you pick up knowledge. After you have hit a road bump, after you have tried so hard and worked your heart out, after you have done everything possible to succeed, it doesn't go well; you fail. It hurts you so much that you go into a shell. Do you find yourself evaluating those experiences and diving right back into your work? You're a creative person.
You learn from everything that happens around you and you also go into history to find salvation. To help you deal with the present. You research the greatness that appeared before you in your field and you read on how much they failed, that motivates you to learn from what you have just gone through. Creative people learn in all sorts of ways but if you find yourself failing and overtime you get back up its to something bigger, You should smile and be proud as you're a creative. Elon Musk is always crashing one of his rockets but in December 2014 to be able to take Christmas presents to the folks working at the space station is something I call extraordinary. This sort of thing is what happens when you fail and fail. The victory is even sweeter.
3. YOU ASK THOUGHT PROVOKING QUESTIONS
Why do we love? Why are we here? What is God? These questions are for the appreciation of things around them and its unexplained creativity. Creative people also feel something higher, something different. Where people see cars and money and other materialistic things, creative people see passion, love and other emotions. Believe me its possible to see emotions around us. You ask questions that your teachers, parents, leaders can't seem to answer with all their human appointed power and you turn to the sky for answers.
Questions like "why are we here?" and questions that challenge this reality is what makes you a creative person. You feel you can make lives better and you start to seek a calm mind. You seek answers to the whole universe and its workings because everything around us is creation including you. Your whole humanity is based around creation and you choose not to surprise it like the others. You choose to take the 'Hard' route. Keep asking questions and never stop. Keep seeking answers and knowledge. That’s where the power is, not the money. Buddha asked why we suffer and why there is pain. Now in 2015, there are temples with his statues and his teachings are a way of life. If Buddha isn't creative then I have no clue what is.
4. YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THE ONES BEFORE YOU
Steve Jobs believed in simplicity, design and partnerships. IBM computers and other makers of computers at the time were making products that were the size of mini coopers and antique cabinets. Computers were ugly and belonged to the rich and governments. Steve had a vision and invited pals to accomplish his vision, as well as their own. Now we use iWatches. I guess computers have come a long way.
No matter what type of creative you are, someone has been in your field before you. Do you feel like you can make "it" better? Like you can invent a new thing all together. If you believe you can do better and start taking the necessary steps to prove this, no matter how big or small, then you're an extremely creative person.
Attempting to make an impact makes you a creative person. You go out of your way to research and research and do more research just to find that spark that can move your mind set in the right direction. You find yourself, wherever you are, plotting how to make whatever you have better. You secretly think in your head how you are going to be better than your idols.
5. YOU LIVE Y0UR FANTASIES
Jay Z said; "Police pursued me, chased cuffed and subdued me Talked to me rudely; cause I'm young rich and I'm black and live in a movie, not living by rules.
Somehow at the beginning of your journey you've always wanted to be something. Even if you don't know what, you know you have to make something of yourself. That drive starts to form scenarios of lives you can live. You somehow find a way to start living these fantasies. Your work ethic and the fact you always want to smile because you have been told you were different, makes you fight for what’s yours. Jay Z lives in a movie and by no rules. If you're a true creative, you can sense that nothing around you makes you fully happy because you never created it. Some might say what they want about you and your journey but living in your fantasy, no matter the kind, is something you should be proud off. So clap for yourself and kiss yourself anytime you look in the mirror because you are a creative person.
We are all creative people but only a few really get to taste this creative energy. If you notice some of these traits in yourself then i beg of you to follow your heart. Trust yourself and it will lead you in your best direction.
