Alarm bells may ring when you first imagine a plane without windows. You may think that one of the finest pleasures of admiring the world below is being taken away from you. The French agency ‘Technicon Design’, however, believe they have an answer for just that. Their Ixion Windowless Private Jet will not only save fuel by removing the windows, but could also revolutionize the way that we fly.

The jets most anticipated attribute is the unique concept for the windows replacements. Instead of windows, you will find exclusive high-tech screens. The entire interior sides and roof of the cabin will beam the spectacular panoramic surroundings of outside the plane, giving you the ultimate unhindered view of the world around you. Technicon Design are taking aircraft technology one step further, with the sensation that you are propelling across the world in a transparent private jet.

By engaging the passenger with the environment, Technicon Design are ensuring that the essence of flying is not lost. The external cameras placed on the body and its wings will capture that essence for you, bringing the outside world inside via high resolution screens.

If this is not your idea of luxury, then let your imagination take you wherever you wish. Chief of Technicon Design, Gareth Davies, says that the possibilities are endless with digital screening. The curved screens will have the ability to display films, picturesque landscapes, or even let you make conference calls. Just stretch your imagination to the limit. Even to outer space.

As a Winner of the 2014 International Yacht & Aviation Awards in the Exterior design category, the futuristic jet is rapidly attracting interest due to its conceptual design. Without windows, there is more flexibility to enrich the interior layout with “unlimited design possibilities”. The Ixion jet will also boast ‘Passenger tracking technology with a personalised avatar’, as well as ‘Parallax barrier technology’ that will allow multiple scenes for passengers desiring different views.

Along with this elevated technology, the Private Jet will use solar panels to make it even more environmentally friendly than a regular plane. Davies tells the Telegraph that reducing the weight, by removing the windows, will not only “save fuel” but also make the plane “slightly more aerodynamic” because there will be less drag in a streamlined aircraft.

The windowless idea was initially revealed at the NBAA Business Aviation Show in 2013. Davies challenged his team to “break out of conventional thinking”. He sought to push the boundaries of airplanes as we know it in order to create the most luxurious and fascinating concept of a plane yet. Technicon Design have proved that their idea for “flexible displays” are possible, but are still working on their other features. The French agency aim to illustrate how a fantasy can become reality, creating an entirely “new recipe” for flying. With plans for private jets like this, who knows what the future of flying holds?
