Is The ‘Ugly Shoe’ The Shoe of The Year.. ALREADY?!

I remember getting picked on when I was younger for wearing these enormous trainers, which are now commonly known as turbo trainers. They weren’t “cool” enough.. They looked like they swallowed my feet and it was always a step too far when I showed them off with my calve raised bleached white socks (Why mum? Why?) I was a trend setter from a young age I guess.. Now whose laughing?!

In the mornings, I would people watch everyone rushing to work in their stylish suits and looking down to expect these Louis Vuitton heels or well polished brogues, but then would always come across to these ugly bright coloured trainers. Was this trainer slowing becoming a trend, but we just didn’t realise it?

I like to class these trainers as sneakers on steroids. They have bulked up, dressed up and ready to make a stand to all negative trend haters. Shoes have slowly devolved over the years, especially trainers, from trainer heels to Stan Smiths and now to the shoe of P.E nightmares. But whether we like to admit it or not, this shoe is one we all want in our wardrobes.

Over fashion month, I have seen a lot of influencers and style gurus wear the turbo trainers with a lot of outfits you wouldn’t of dressed your worse enemy in… But styling them with the complete opposite is what is making this shoe a must have of the year. From two piece suits all the way to the most feminine of dresses, the clash is what is making us invest in a pair (or two).

It was Balenciaga that took the plunge in investing in this one of a kind trend back in their Fall Winter 17/18 collection, bringing out the Triple S. And it was here where the trend blew up out of nowhere. Gucci later followed with releasing their Rhyton Sneaker, which has become a gender neutral shoe so all sexes can be seen wearing this must have trend.

Who says we have to dress in stilettos and perfectly polished shoes to make or outfit look full? Not anymore! Shoes are officially our best friends. So why not treat yourself to a pair? An investment worth instagramming about.
