THE ULTIMATE CLIFF HOUSE

Australian architectural firm, Modscape, have ambitiously designed a luxury, five-storey Cliff House to hang above the majestic Indian Ocean. The unusual building will cling to the cliff face in the Australian state of Victoria, offering spectacular views that have never been seen in this way before.

For those who enjoy living life on the edge, this is the perfect deluxe home for a thrill-seeker. Your heart will certainly be beating fast with the notion that you could crash into the thrashing waves below you at any moment.

To access the exclusive property, you will have to ‘literally’ drive off a cliff. Residents will enter on the uppermost level where they will find the garage carport, connecting you to the four living spaces beneath via an elevator. The innovative residence will feature three bedrooms (one with an en-suite), one main bathroom and an elegant open-plan lounge and kitchen area. The bottom floor will additionally boast a lavish open-air spa Jacuzzi area, where you will also be able to cook up some succulent barbeques.

The interior furnishings are kept modern and minimalistic “to ensure that the transcendent views of the ocean and the unique spatial experience of the location remain the integral focal point of the design”. As the ultimate selling point, the unrivalled panoramic sea views will take your breath away, as long as you are not too squeamish or afraid of heights. Modscape have taken stunning cliff views to the extreme, by hanging you from the edge instead of simply securing you safely on top.

The conceptual home was originally “a theoretical response to clients who have approached the architectural firm to explore design options for extreme parcels of coastal land in Australia” for a holiday home. With popularity rising for unconventional properties, Modscape aimed to create something completely unique and they were inspired by the way barnacles cling to the hull of a ship. The picturesque home is visualised as a “natural extension of the cliff face rather than an addition to the landscape, creating an absolute connection with the ocean” as though you are floating in the sea.

Although Modscape’s latest design is still only a concept at this stage, they envisage the structure to suspend from “extreme parcels” of Coastal land in Australia. The property will be fixed into the cliff using “engineered steel pins” and cantilever beams drilled into the rocks for support, delivering a stacked modular design. As specialists in prefabricated housing, Modscape believe that this luxurious Cliff House is achievable, even with the threat of coastal erosion.

With the construction process expected to be challenging, it is likely to be an incredibly expensive project that will need a wealthy prospective owner to take up residence. There is no doubt that it would be a magnificent holiday home, with the location providing the best sea views yet, but could you see yourself living in a house like this – that is hanging on for dear life?
